Argarita Johnson-Palavicini, born and reared in New York, is an internationally acclaimed flautist, vocalist, composer, author, and pedagogist. She has performed in Italy, Poland, Barbados, Ghana, and Finland. She also served as an artist-in-residence at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, and is currently creating an international teaching partnership with the University of Ghana.
Argarita has been singing since the age of five and playing the flute since the age of 10 and has been privately teaching students for over 20 years. She has studied with James Spaulding, Cecil Bridgewater, Daryl Jordan, David Baker, Lida Baker, Luke Gillespie, Whit Sidener, and Dwayne Kerr.
In 1999, Argarita won a National Competition to play in Italy for three months with the Internationale Roma as Principle Flautist. She has opened for Diana Ross, sang background vocals for George Benson, and performed alongside Roseanna Vitro, New York Voices, and Steve Miller. Most notably, Argarita has played alongside Ray Chew, Najee, and Dave Valentin. She has also had solo appearances at the world-famous Madison Square Garden and Apollo Theatre.
She received a Bachelor of Music degree in Classical Flute Performance from Stetson University and a Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. Additionally, Johnson-Palavicini earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Studio & Vocal Jazz Performance from the University of Miami's Frost School of Music.
Currently, Dr. Argarita Johnson-Palavicini serves as the Department Chair of Arts & Humanities, Assistant Professor of Music, and Director of the Ambassador Chorale at Florida Memorial University in Miami Gardens, FL.
